NBC Asian America did a wonderful write-up on our Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon earlier this month on May 5th! They interviewed out Programs and Communications Manager Kyle Lucia Wu, who laid out the aims of the event:
“It’s just a tangible way for us to work against the erasure of Asian American voices, to work toward visibility and accessibility,” Wu said. “Wikipedia is one of the most popular websites in the world. When are you ever allowed to take a popular platform and change it? There’s so many things that we cannot change about Asian American representation, but through this, we can actually help those information gaps and that’s why it’s so important for us.”
In collaboration with Wikimedia NYC to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2019, we focused on creating more visibility for Asian American literature and literary organizations. Since the event, we added 8 new articles, edited 26 existing articles, and added 13,000 words to Wikipedia!
