Beauty in Brevity: The Flash Nonfiction Essay with Mark L. Keats
Nonfiction Workshop:
Mondays, 8:00 PM–10:30 PM ET
March 7th–May 2nd
Open to all writers of color
Beauty in Brevity is an introductory level class designed to give students space to read, discuss, and write within the scope of the flash nonfiction form. Students will become more aware of how writers utilize language, compression, imagery, voice, and arrangement with respect to the flash form to support their own writing of compelling flash nonfiction driven by generative exercises.
Autopoiesis: A Poetry Craft Class for Transracial Adoptees with Tiana Nobile & Leah Silvieus
Poetry Craft Class:
Tuesday, 6:00 PM–9:00 PM ET
March 8th
Open to all transracial adoptees
In this generative poetry craft class exclusively for transracial adoptees, we will explore the power of taking ownership over your own story. Questions around belonging, familial history, and erasure are built into the adoptee experience. Students will consider these questions through craft exercises that focus on found text/erasure, collaboration, questions, and direct address.
Listening to Images with Diana Khoi Nguyen
Photography Craft Class:
Saturday, 12:00 PM–3:00 PM ET
March 19th
Open to all writers of color
In this collaborative space (the course model for a workshop is a space of generating work and sharing it in communal generosity), we will explore the ways in which poets have recently engaged with personal, historical, and archival photographs. No prior knowledge in working with text and image is required.
All classes will take place on Zoom and the class times listed are in Eastern Time. There are scholarships available for each class and deadlines are listed on the individual course pages.
