In 2004, Kundiman presented its inaugural Retreat at the University of Virginia. The Retreat has taken place annually since then, welcoming over 250 Fellows and 50 acclaimed faculty members, and serving both poets and fiction writers. We have offered programs such as food writing intensives, a mentorship lab, an Asian American feminist writing workshop, online classes, and more.
To commemorate 20 years of nurturing Asian American literature, Joyland Magazine is hosting a summer series of 20 prose publications from 20 Kundiman Fellows. The series will kick off in May for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and run through August. Each month, five new pieces will be published by Joyland Magazine.
