We hope you've been able to find genuine connection through art during this time. In the next year, we want to spread our branches to new writers while remaining rooted in our values of community, inclusion, and radical welcome. To achieve this goal, we need your support.
In response to the pandemic, we’ve offered new virtual programming open to all BIPOC writers. Our readings and workshops have reached over 5,000 attendees, demonstrating the need for more accessible community spaces. If we were able to accommodate all Asian American writers interested in participating, we would be serving so many more.
T Kira Madden, Kundiman faculty, testifies:
"Kundiman remains unparalleled in its commitment to inclusive community building through the arts. They continue to dismantle the power hierarchies and literary gatekeeping that has kept so many of our best writers and thinkers boxed out of a tired “canon.” Instead, they offer accessibility and support, redefining the landscape of what it means to create, imagine, and learn."
We will continue to offer unique spaces for building community such as our Mentorship Lab, a six-month program that provides mentorship support from established artists alongside writing workshops, master classes, and a culminating reading open to the public. We are also proud to announce new opportunities like our Asian American Feminist Writing Workshop in collaboration with Asian American Feminist Collective. With the overwhelming response to our online programs, it is clear that our communities need more opportunities to grow as writers, readers, and activists. Partner with Kundiman to make a home for Asian American voices.
This year, our fundraising goal is $30,000 and we need your help to meet it. A contribution of $150 provides a scholarship to our one-day workshop intensives. A donation of $1500 supports local events in one of our 8 regional groups for an entire year. We hope to bring these communal offerings to you. Send your gift to Kundiman today to grow a better future.
