The Poetry of Protest: An Online Workshop with Purvi Shah

"Y la culpa no era mía, ni dónde estaba, ni cómo vestía." (“and the fault wasn’t mine, not where I was, not how I dressed.”) –– Rita Laura Segato and Las Tesis

In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, join us for an online workshop with Purvi Shah exploring Poetry & Protest!

One genesis of poetry is protest. This workshop will examine poetic engagement with protest, particularly the connections of public engagement, craft, and lyrical activism on the page and shared aloud in the world. We will draw upon mentor poems to guide our discussion of the techniques poets use to develop a landscape of protest and action and we will practice using these techniques in our own writing via a series of prompts.

This workshop is open to all writers who self-identify as Asian American. Advance registration is required on a first-come, first-served basis. There are 20 spots available. This workshop is in collaboration with the Poetry Coalition, and will be offered for free, with gratitude to the Poetry Coalition, the Academy of American Poets, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. You can register here!
