Our understandings of race start at the dinner table, in the communities closest to us. At the same time, for Asian diaspora families that hold varied languages, ages, immigration stories, and experiences, these are often the spaces where it is hardest to organize.
Through the lens of creative writing, Kundiman wants to create space to develop new languages to connect with family members and loved ones about how we position, identify, and liberate our communities within American racial structures.
Preliminary schedule:
- Introduction and framing
- Collective sharing and discussion
- Writing time
- Reading and closing discussion
Free and open to anyone who identifies as AAPI or of the Asian diaspora. RSVP here.
This event is a continuation of “Stay Woke,” a writing workshop, reading, and organizing program that Kundiman developed in response to and solidarity with Black Lives Matter and the Ferguson, MO uprisings of 2014.
Thank you to Equality Fund at Asian Americans for Equality for hosting this event.
